@ted I guess the first startup that finds out how to give accurate recommendations based on who is present and/or using the service at the moment is going to earn a lot of 💵, since that is what all parents long for.

@ted IA recommendations ( Music, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon,…) are not suited at all for family use.
@vincent Isn’t that a liiitle bit OCD??? You will be just fine with 8 emails in your inbox…
@kaa Good luck! 🍀⌚️
@kaa Like I said, it isn’t for everyone. By the way, you can clearly distinguish the quarter hours and, if you look more closely, get to 5 minutes precision.
@dave The issue is that this actually works! Most MailChimp customers leave the tracking option activated when sending out a mailing, and most email clients happily open all (hidden) images in any message to give MailChimp that information.
The only exception to this rule are people with an Hey email address and a minority of concerned people who have deactivated the image display in their email client.
@kaa I feel you… There are many options available and most of them are more or lest the same… a typical case of Analysis paralysis.
Let me make your choice a little more complicated by presenting you my favourite watch: the Slow Watch. It is like many other watches, but completely different in other ways. Most people either love it (like I do) or don’t understand it.
@dominikhoecht I just migrated my personal blog over to Micro.blog from Wordpress (I dislike the new block editor and have no use for 90% of its features).
Besides my personal blog, I have a podcast and a professional blog hosted on Squarespace. As for social networks, I crosspost from my blogs and podcast to Twitter and LinkedIn. Once every few days I connect to those networks to reply any mentions and messages.
@jlelse Too little, too late…
@patrickrhone What we believe in.
@Help What is the correct way to create a reply to an externally hosted post from within micro.blog?
If I understood it correctly, when I simply mention the URL in a regular post it will send a webmention, but won’t show up in my replies, right?
@LJPUK Isn’t Google a platform as well? Aren’t you simply shifting some part of your tools from the platform to Google?
@dominikhoecht Love it! 😍
@patrickrhone Beautiful and useful
@canion I see the lack of extensions as a feature. As a patient of the Shiny New Plugin Syndrome, I tend to install waaaayyy to much plugins, slowing down my browsing experience.
Since switching to Safari, I found that most plugins hardly add any benefit.
Instead of the Inoreader plugin, I use the bookmarklet for subscribing to new feeds (which I don’t want to do too often to avoid clogging up my queue) and for reading I simple go to my feed reader.
@jeroensangers Since then I switched to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, with Slartibartfast as my main creation device.
@martinfeld I used to use names from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but after the movies came out I found that I this scheme was not unique enough anymore (one night in my hotel room I discovered a total of four devices called Frodo on the network).
@ton I remember having seen comments in the Obsidian forums about people combining both tools. As for the network graph, when trying out Roam Research it was the feature I was most interested in, but after a while I found that I never used it.
@ton Did you also have a look at Zettlr? It is also open source software using Markdown file and has great integration with Zotero.
@dominikhoecht Depending on the stuff you want to save, an often overlooked option is Archive.com. As long as you’re ok putting everything in public domain, there are basically no limits.
@czottmann As far as I know, you don’t need an invite anymore. Hey is open for everyone.
@czottmann Nice! The rules can be even more powerful if expressed in a positive way instead of prohibitions:
@pratik I can gladly say I don’t have much of a spam problem nowadays, mostly because of filters trained on my preferences. I had less success with generic IA, mainly because of all the people finding it easier to Mark messages as spam than to unsubscribe.
@canion What’s the benefit over using Ferrite?
@pratik I used to have a catch-all email adresss where every email directed to my domain would arrive. For each service I subscribed to I used a unique service@example.com address. That way I could alway track the source of spam and selectively block certain addresses.
In the end I deactivated my catch-all account as I started receiving spam addressed to random addresses. I still remember the hassle of updating all my accounts…
